“We decided to approach Kristina on the basis of a mutual agreement with our media partner Fun Radio. We believe that the song will be equally popular among Slovaks and international listeners alike,” said OC Chairman Igor Nemeček.
Martin Kavulič – Kristina’s producer – and Universal Music succeeded in composing a modern, dynamic English anthem which also has a Slovak feel. “Being that it’s quite hard to interpret sheep’s cheese in music, we chose to include fujara flute elements,“ says Kavulič with a grin.
Proof that Kristina was the right choice lays in the fact that hockey is her favourite game. “The anthem is dedicated to all hockey players, although I support ours the most,” she said.
She also has the full backing of the championship's organizing committee.
“Kristina is one of the most talented young Slovak singers. She’s already had one huge radio hit - Horehronie - and according to radio indicators listeners have so far reacted very positively to her music,“ explains Michaela Grendelová, 2011 IIHF World Championship Head of Communication concerning the choice of artist.
