A mere month after the ticket sales commenced for the 2011 IIHF World Championship in Slovakia (29. 4. – 15. 5. 2011), the organizers have announced that one-third of all available tickets have already been sold.

"It excites us that there is such great interest in tickets, especially with half a year left to the championship. Despite this rush, we would like to make potential ticket buyers feel at ease as there are still tickets available for the games featuring the world’s top 16 teams," said 2011 IIHF World Championship Organizing Committee Chairman Igor Nemecek.

From the overall total of tickets allotted for sale, some 114,000 have already been sold in packages during the initial phase. A total of 26 percent of tickets have been sold via the internet, with the remainder being sold in Ticketportal outlets.

The most tickets have been sold in the Slovak capital of Bratislava, followed by Košice, the second championship venue. The top internet orders have come from Slovakia, followed by the Czech Republic and Finland.

Interestingly enough, tickets have been ordered by fans from as far away as Afghanistan, Israel, the Dominican Republic and even Swaziland.

In addition to ticket packages, as of the December 1, 2010 day tickets will be on sale.
