KOSICE – USA Hockey announced that James van Riemsdyk will join the team at the 2011 IIHF World Championship.
The Philadelphia Flyers winger is expected to arrive in Kosice on Sunday. He might play his first game on Monday when Team USA concludes the Qualification Round with a match against Switzerland.
The 22-year-old finished his second NHL season with the Philadelphia Flyers. He scored 21 goals and had 19 assists in 75 regular-season games. Van Riemsdyk scored seven goals in 11 games in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
It will be his first event with the men’s national team. Van Riemsdyk represented the United States in three World U20 Championships (2009, 2008, 2007-bronze) and two World U18 Championships (2007-silver, 2006-gold) belonging to the key players in those tournaments.
