BRATISLAVA – The Russian Hockey Federation’s President, Vladislav Tretyak, confirms that the Russian national team has extended an invitation to Alexander Ovechkin for the 2011 IIHF World Championship.

“Alexander has given his consent. The Washington Capitals will have a meeting tomorrow and we hope to have Ovechkin here the day after that,” Tretyak told Sovietski Sport.

They have not yet made a decision on Ovechkin’s teammate Alexander Syomin, as they also are monitoring the situation with Detroit and Pavel Datsyuk.
