SIERRE, Switzerland – Kevin Lötscher, who played six games for the Swiss national team at the 2011 IIHF World Championship, is in intensive care after a car accidentin the night from Friday to Saturday in his hometown of Sierre.

The accident was confirmed by his new club team SC Bern on Saturday.

According to a press release from the police, Lötscher was struck at the roadside by a car, driven by an intoxicated driver. He suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital. He’s in intensive care and in an artificial coma.

Update May 15: Kevin Lötscher’s state of health is stable. He remains in artificial coma and reacts positive to the medical measures.

Lötscher played his first World Championship recently and scored two goals for Switzerland.
