Special coin minted for 2011 IIHF WM

The 2011 IIHF World Championship, Slovakia mascot – Goooly, the nice grey wolf has become the central emblem of a set of a Slovak run of coins minted in  2011 put on sale today at the Kremnica mint. The collection was created by the Slovak National Bank in collaboration with the 2011 IIHF World Championship Organizing Committee.

 

The 2011 IIHF World Championship coin collection is a continuation of the successful sports emblem collection. The main emblem concentrates on the most successful Slovak team sport – ice hockey, the success of Slovak hockey players in IIHF World Championship history and the expectations of high quality performance at the upcoming 2011 IIHF WM. Annual coin collections are generally sought after by mainly coin collectors who obtain complete series’ of coins of all nominal values with the same year of issue. Recently their display and memorabilia use has become more important for the general public.

 

The collection is made up of a coloured paper sleeve with an 2011 IIHF World Championship impression and coins placed in protective transparent foil, Eight nominal value Slovak Euro coins embossed with special burnished stamps complimented by a two-sided token featuring the 2011 IIHF World Championship logo. The artist behind the token graphic design is Kremnica mint atelier head Štefan Novotný.

 

31 000 sets have been issued, of which 6000 are high gloss proof like  and 25 000 are with burnished stamps.
