The Košice Steel Arena training hall has been officially approved and will serve for the purposes of this years 2011 IIHF World Championship. The official building approval was handed over to Steel Arena representatives on Monday 28th February and comes into effect 15 days later.

“This means that we have kept things on schedule and the hall has been approved two months before the championship starts. We now have adequate time for testing and preparations for the 2011 IIHF World Championship itself. Control technology is being put in place, individual rooms are being labelled and the sectors are being zoned. The dressing rooms are being furnished we are training people and cleaning up.” stated Steel Arena general manager Igor Havrila.

Work should start on the training hall rink surface at the end of March, the ice will then remain preserved until the 2011 IIHF World Championship and all competitors and participants. There is also a modern camera system in the training hall with six cameras monitoring the security situation.

The training hall reconstruction cost a total of 3 746 000 Euros and was financed by the Slovak Ministry of Education, U.S, Steel Košice and the City of Košice itself. “We can state that we have kept the promise we made to the 2011 IIHF WM Organizing Committee, International Ice Hockey Federation and the public especially  in 2006, when we said we would build a training hall for the 2011 IIHF World Championship” added Havrila. The grand opening of the training hall takes place on the 28th of March 2011.
