BERNE – While Russia, Sweden and Team USA have secured their quarterfinal berths, the last spot will either go to Latvia or Switzerland in Group E. The USA-Switzerland match at 20:15 at Berne’s PostFinance Arena will decide which team will move to the final round. Click here for the Live Ticker.

If Switzerland doesn’t win in regulation time, the standings will be very clear: 1. Russia 14 points, 2. Sweden 10 points, 3. USA 8-10 points, 4. Latvia 7 points, 5. Switzerland 4-6 points, 6. France 0 points.

Should the Swiss beat Team USA in regulation time, three teams would be tied at seven points: 1. Russia 14 points, 2. Sweden 10 points, 3. Switzerland 7 points, 4. USA 7 points, 5. Latvia 7 points, 6. France 0 points.

According to the regulation, the following tie-breaking formula applies when three teams have the same number of points: their ranking is determined by the higher number of points in a special standing composed just from the results of their head-to-head (mutual) games.

The scores between the teams: USA-LAT 4-2 (USA 3 points, LAT 0), SUI-LAT 1-2 SO (SUI 1 point, LAT 2 points), USA-SUI if Switzerland wins in regulation time: USA 0 points, SUI 3 points.

The head-to-head standings would therefore be: 3. SUI 4 points, 4. USA 3 points, 5. LAT 2 points, which means that Switzerland and Team USA would move to the quarterfinals, while the tournament would end for Latvia.

Non-final ranking Group F in Zurich-Kloten: 1. Canada 12*, 2. Finland 9*, 3. Czech Republic 9, 4. Belarus 6, 5. Slovakia 4, 6. Norway 2.

* Finland can overtake Canada with a win in regulation time in their clash tonight at 20:15 in Kloten. Otherwise, Canada will finish in first, Finland in second place.

Quarterfinal format: 1E-4F and 2F-3E will play one day. 1F-4E and 2E-3F will be played the other day. Game days are May 6 and 7 (16:15 and 20:15). Game times will be finalized later tonight. If Switzerland is qualified for the quarterfinals, they will play on May 7 at 20:15.
