LINKÖPING, Sweden – Linköpings HC defenceman Daniel Fernholm suffered a wrist injury in a 5-4 road win against Skellefteå AIK on Monday.
The towering 24-year-old's hand was slashed, causing a tendon injury. Fernholm will be sidelined for at least 10 to 14 days to allow the swelling to go down for further evaluataion.
“We will consider the possibility of using a special protection. Meanwhile, he will receive rehab training,” said Hemlin.
Fernholm has logged the most ice time among the team's defensemen this season and led the plus/minus in the 2008 playoffs (+11). He played his first IIHF World Championship last year in Canada.
Linköping plays its first Champions Hockey League game on October 8th in Prague against Slavia before hosting the ZSC Lions on October 22nd.
