The 2010 IIHF World Championship is going to crunch time. On tomorrow’s Thursday will be the Quarter-Finals at SAP ARENA Mannheim and LANXESS arena in Cologne.
20.05.2010
4:15pm FIN – CZE Cologne
8:15pm RUS – CAN Cologne
4:15pm SWE – DEN Mannheim
8:15pm SUI – GER Mannheim
Both Semi-Finals will be on Saturday in Cologne (2pm/6pm).
Until now 444.073 spectators visited the games of the 2010 IIHF World Championship. The run on tickets is huge and another record within reach – after the opening game in Gelsenkirchen.
Franz Reindl, general secretary of the 2010 IIHF World Championship: "One must no longer be a fortune teller in saying that we will reach our dream target of 500'000 spectators during this World Championship. As the run on the tickets is presently evolving, this could even be the case on Thursday with the quarter-finals or at the latest on Saturday. When one aim is reached, one automatically sets the next goal and this would then be the overall spectator record for an IIHF World Championship, which has been set in 2004 in the Czech Republic with a total of 552'097 visitors. Knock-out encounters like Finland-Czech Republic and Russia-Canada in Cologne are the dream of every hockey fan, not too mention the big quarter-final derby between Switzerland and Germany, and also the game between Sweden and amazingly strong Denmark promises to be a high voltage clash. The opportunity to experience such games live in your own country will not return in the next few years and perhaps those watching the game live in the arenas will be part of another spectator world record."
