東京へようこそ。
Welcome to Tokyo!
For the first time in the IIHF’s 104-year old history an IIHF Congress will take place in Asia. The 2012 IIHF Semi-Annual and General Congress will be held in Tokyo, Japan, the hometown of Shoichi Tomita, who will retire as IIHF Vice President after serving on the IIHF Council for 34 years.

Tokyo (東京) is the capital of Japan, the biggest city of the country and one of the largest urban areas in the world with 9 million inhabitants in the city, 13 million in the prefecture and 35 million in the Greater Tokyo Area. The city is in the East of the Honshu Island, near the Pacific Ocean.

Tokyo is a city of contrast with places for everybody. It hosts old shrines, temples, tranquil gardens and the Imperial Palace, but also modern architecture, high-tech visions of the future, vibrant business districts, neon-illuminated nightlife areas and one of the highest concentrations of global companies.

The city was originally called Edo and is more than 500 years old. It is well connected with other places in Japan through its two major airports and the high-speed Shinkansen trains.

Food lovers won’t be disappointed with Japanese cuisine and a huge variety of international specialties.
