Russia – Sweden 2 - 6 (0 – 2, 1 – 2, 1 – 2) Game Sheet, Photos The Damkronorna booked their ticket to the playoff round with a 6-2 victory over Russia. Swedish defenceman Anna Kjellbin led the Swedish attack, notching a hat trick in her team’s final Group A game. Sweden got on the board early with a goal from Linn Peterson 1:18 into the game, followed by Kjellbin’s first at 18:37. Russia, which has struggled to generate much offense through two games, got its first goal of the championship early in the second period to close the gap at 2-1. But Swedish forward Mathilda Andersson answered with a marker of her own and Kjellbin potted her second goal of the game, putting the Russians in a 4-1 hole. Kjellbin added another goal in the third, scoring off of a penalty shot shortly after Russia managed to get a goal short handed. The 0-3 Russians will move to the relegation round against Switzerland, while Sweden will advance to the quarter-finals.  Switzerland – Germany 1 – 6 (1 – 1, 0 – 1, 0 – 4) Game Sheet, Photos Germany’s offense came alive just in time to avoid the relegation round, beating Switzerland 6-1 after being held scoreless in their first two games. German forward Kerstin Spielberger had four goals as her team booked a playoff date in the quarter-finals tomorrow.   The game was close until the final frame, when Spielberger scored three unanswered goals and Marie Delarbre added another. Switzerland struck first off of a powerplay goal from Lara Stalder, but the tap ran dry after that. German goaltender Franziska Albl made 60 saves in the game as the Swiss put on intense pressure all game but could not convert it into any more goals. With the loss, Switzerland will be playing in the relegation round against Russia. Though both teams end up with the same record, Germany will move on to Zlin for the quarter finals based on today's win.

USA – Czech Republic 12 – 1 (3 – 0, 5 – 1, 4 – 0) Game Sheet, Photos The United States took care of business in their final Group A game, putting away the Czechs early and wrapping up a quarter-final bye with a 12-1 victory. Coming out of the gate with a trio of goals from Alex Carpenter, Molly Illikainen, and Hayley Skarupa, the Americans poured in five more in the second period to put the game away early and force the Czechs to a goaltending change, to no avail. Skarupa scored a goal in each period, giving the tournament scoring leader three hat tricks in three games. Carpenter also had a trio of scores and her linemate Anne Pankowski added a pair of goals in the third period. The Czech ladies now get to remain in Zlin to play in the quarter-finals in front of their home crowd. Team USA will get a bye through the playoff round and will play in the semi-final game. Canada – Finland 7 – 0 (3 – 0, 2 – 0, 2 – 0) Game Sheet, Photos Canadian goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer got an easy shutout as her teammates controlled the puck all through their game against Finland, pounding the Finns for 95 shots in a 7-0 victory. The line of Laura Stacey, Nicole Connery, and Meghan Dufault had eight points in the game. Connery opened the scoring in the first period, and Stacey added another at 10:41. Dufault scored Canada’s fifth goal in the second period and finished with one goal and three assists, earning Best Player honors. The Finnes were outmatched in their own zone, and could not prevent a barrage of scoring chances against netminder Tiina Ranne, playing in place of Isabella Portnoj who sat out the game. Despite the tough loss, Finland will advance to the quarter-final. Canada will get the bye through to the semi-finals. ADAM STEISS
