STOCKHOLM – The Scandinavian teams will get boost from the Vancouver Canucks at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. Alexander Edler, Daniel and Henrik Sedin, and Nicklas Jensen are expected to arrive in Stockholm in the upcoming days.

The Swedish Ice Hockey Association confirmed on Wednesday night that defenceman Alexander Edler and the Sedin twins, Daniel and Henrik, will join the national team in Stockholm.

The Swedish trio became available when the Vancouver Canucks were eliminated from their playoff series against the San Jose Sharks, 4-0, on Tuesday night. It is not clear when they will arrive. According to Swedish media reports they will be in Stockholm at the earliest for Saturday’s game against Slovenia.

For Edler it would be the second major tournament with the men’s national team after the 2008 Worlds, while the Sedin twins have represented Sweden in the last two Olympic Winter Games, winning the gold medal in 2006 in Turin.

The Sedin brothers have also played in four World Championships so far – for the first time as 18-year-olds in 1999 and most recently in 2005.

“These are obviously great players that will give the team a boost,” said Swedish national team coach Pär Mårts. “Another good thing is that this ends our process of adding players and this will give the team peace of mind to focus on the game.”

Also the Danish national team is expected to get reinforcement from Vancouver. While Jannik Hansen declined the invitation due to an injury, the Danish Ice Hockey Association announced that Nicklas Jensen got green light to join the team.

The 20-year-old Herning native could arrive earliest for the game on Saturday against Switzerland.

It would be the first World Championship for the first-round draft pick, who was loaned out to Denmark for the Final Olympic Qualification in February. Jensen played his first two NHL games for the Canucks in April after spending most of the season with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves (20 games, 2 goals, 2 assists) and during the labour conflict in North America with AIK Stockholm in the Swedish Elitserien (50 games, 17 goals, 6 assists).
