STOCKHOLM – Today the Sedin brothers and Alexander Edler skated at the Hovet Arena as they look to get adjusted quickly to the pace and process of the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. The Swedish media was out in force to cover this latest and most significant development at the World Championship here in Stockholm. And that of course is the arrival of the Sedins in time to represent their country for the first time since 2005 at the World Championships. “We are very excited to be here.” Henrik Sedin told IIHF.com. “It gives us a chance to prolong the season and a chance to help this team. It was a tough ending for us in the NHL playoffs so this gives us another week of playing hockey and doing it in our home country.” Sweden has struggled with its scoring. Its scoring efficiency is last in the tournament and its power play is 13th out of 16. Sweden has 13 goals through six games, averaging a little more that two per game. With their arrival, the Sedins will be counted upon to help improve the offence. At this stage of the tournament, timely scoring especially on the power play will prove critical for all remaining teams. If Sweden has any chance of making it past the quarter-finals they will need an offensive boost. After arriving last night, the new additions will suit up for Sweden in their game on Tuesday against Denmark. In the meantime, they will get caught up on what’s happened so far and focus being prepared through the rest of the tournament. “We came in last night and the team has the day off so we’ll practise tomorrow, play on Tuesday, practice Wednesday and get ready for the quarter-finals.” JOHN SANFUL
