“The event will be the biggest event in our country in 2014,” said Vilnius’ Mayor Arturas Zuokas at a press conference that coincided with the launch of the ticket sales. “It will be interesting not only for the athletes but also for people in Vilnius, all Lithuania and visiting fans from other countries.”
Zuokas received a Lithuanian hockey jersey with the number 11 from Petras Nauseda of the Organizing Committee, who hopes that Lithuania will have one of its strongest teams in recent years on home ice, maybe even with Dainius Zubrus, who said earlier he would be willing to join his national team should he miss the playoffs with the New Jersey Devils.
The organizers expect an overall attendance of 30,000 to 35,000 fans throughout the six-team event from 20 to 26 April 2014 that also includes Great Britain, Poland, the Netherlands, Romania and Croatia.
