New team prepares for international debut

KUWAIT CITY – For the first time ever women play ice hockey in Kuwait. The ladies from the Gulf state prepare for their international debut in a tournament in Bangkok and hope to join IIHF tournaments in the future after their first experiences.

Kuwait joined the IIHF in 1985 and is one of four countries at the Persian Gulf that has IIHF membership. The men’s team is the second-strongest from the Gulf states in IIHF competitions behind the United Arab Emirates. In spring it won the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey Challenge Cup of Asia Division I on home ice in Kuwait City.
