“Our task was to create event look that can be used for two years and two venues. With good design this is possible and at the same time we can save a lot of money as we don’t need to go through the same process again for the 2013 Worlds”, says Mika Sulin, the general secretary of the Finnish Organizing Committee.
The idea of the star design is based on the slogan ”northern stars of ice hockey”.
“The stars are of course Finland and Sweden, Helsinki and Stockholm and the star players around the world”, Sulin explains.
In Finland the basic star is blue-colored whereas in Sweden it is blue-yellow. For spectators and TV audience the use of same design with clear distinctive elements in both venues is important – this makes the distinction of two venues easier even when watching the games from television.
In addition to the basic versions of the star, there will also be a few variations used in different materials. One version of the star includes a goalie staring on the background whereas in the other version the star is broken into pieces by the official mascot. There will also be applications for each participating team, based on the coloring of the national flags.
During and just before the Worlds, the event look can be seen as a design element in volunteer clothing, backgrounds, signs, different decorative elements and for example in official cars. Just wait and see! |
