Volunteers have been a critical ingredient in the success of many major sporting events in recent decades including previous IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships. In May 2012, volunteers will again perform a variety of roles from the backrooms of arenas assisting with teams, media and VIP guests, sports presentation and ceremonies to helping visitors outside the arenas, Fan Zones and at transport hubs.
“Ice hockey is all about team work and the successful delivery of a tournament of this scale could not be possible without a team of dedicated volunteers, delivering the full range of services from ticketing, and media services to team and VIP services. Each volunteer will have a key role to play in ensuring a memorable experience for the global Hockey family”, says Mika Sulin, General Secretary of the Finnish Organizing Committee.
Sulin together with his Swedish colleague Lars G Karlsson, General Secretary of the Swedish Organizing Committee, stress that volunteers will make a real difference to the smooth running of the Championship.
“On the other hand, this is a great chance for people interested in ice hockey or sports in general to see and learn what it takes to organize such a large scale event. But like great hockey players, great volunteers must be team players, dedicated, hard working and passionate.”
