Fatal crash involving ice hockey team in Canada

According to reports, 16 people are deceased following an a collision between a truck and the team bus carrying members of the Humboldt Broncos Junior A hockey team. 

The accident occurred on Friday at around 17:00 local time. The team, based in the Canadian town of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, was on its way to play in a playoff game when the accident occurred near the town of Tisdale.

The following is a statement by IIHF President René Fasel:

"We were extremely saddened to learn of the tragic accident involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team. The international ice hockey community extends its sincerest condolences to the families and friends of those involved."

A moment of silence will be held prior to tonight's game between Poland and Estonia in the city of Tallinn, which is currently hosting 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group A. A moment of silence will also be held before the game between Latvia and Kazakhstan at the U18 World Championship Division I Group A tournament, taking place in Riga, Latvia tomorrow.
