ZURICH – Next month, The IIHF for the first time ever will launch a Women’s Goaltending Development Camp, aimed at bringing together female netminders and developing their skills between the pipes.

Organized by the IIHF Women’s Committee, the camp will be held in Granada, Spain from 16-23 July.

The camp will bring together 48 female goalies, both from the senior and under-18 level, and 16 goaltending coaches from around the world. The campers were invited from countries ranked outside the top-two in the IIHF Women's World ranking.

The coaches will be coming from established goalie schools from the top two-ranked nations: Canada and the United States, including former Olympic goalie and current Buffalo Beauts goaltender Brianne McLaughlin and Hockey Canada goaltending consultant Joe Johnston.

In addition to the goaltending coaches, two athletic therapists and two equipment managers will also make the trip to Granada to support the campers.

To mark this important step in women’s ice hockey goaltending development, two athlete ambassadors will also visit the camp: Swiss goaltender and Olympic bronze medallist Florence Schelling and Slovak goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova.
