Congresses

General Congress

The General Congress is the IIHF's highest legislative body and makes decisions about the rules of the game, the statutes and bylaws. The General Congress, which is made up by representatives from all IIHF member national associations, elects the president and the council.

 

With some exceptions, the General Congress is held every fourth year. The General Congress was held for the first time in 1975. Prior to that, the federation elected the president and the council at the Annual Congress that usually was held in conjunction with the IIHF World Championship.

 

The General Congress meet as follows: September 2012 and every fourth year thereafter.

The General Congress is organized by the IIHF office in co-operation with the hosting member national association.

Notice of all regular Congresses will be given by the IIHF office not later than two months before such Congress together with the agenda. Relevant documents will be sent out at least one month before the Congress.

 

Annual Congress

The Annual Congress meet as follows: Every year during the IIHF World Championship or where applicable at the time of the General Congress.

The Annual Congress is organized by the IIHF office in co-operation with the hosting member national association.

Notice of all regular Congresses will be given by the IIHF office not later than two months before such Congress together with the agenda. Relevant documents will be sent out at least one month before the Congress.

 

Semi-Annual Congress

The Semi-Annual Congress meet as follows: Every year in the autumn.

The Semi-Annual Congress is organized by the IIHF office in co-operation with the hosting member national association.

Notice of all regular Congresses will be given by the IIHF office not later than two months before such Congress together with the agenda. Relevant documents will be sent out at least one month before the Congress.

 

Extraordinary Congress

The Extraordinary Congress meet within three months following the request for such meetings.

An Extraordinary Congress shall be called only upon request of one third of the member national associations in good standing or by Council. The items on the agenda shall be limited to those specified at the time the Extraordinary Congress was requested.
