Sergej Gontcharov   Close Biography

Sergej Gontcharov was born in Chemnitz, Germany, on 30th September 1983. He studied international sports management at the ISW Business School in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, and graduated with an international sports manager diploma.

He was an assistant to the general manager for the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia from 2004 to 2007 and participated as a team staff member at three World Championships, three World Junior Championships at the 2014 World Cup of Hockey.

Between 2007 and 2011 he was the General Secretary of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Association. During this period he led the bid for hosting the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Minsk, organized several events including the 2010 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship in Minsk, the KHL All-Star Game 2010, was involved in the founding and negotiation process of Dynamo Minsk joining the Russian-based KHL, assisted in the construction and running of the 15,000-seat Minsk Arena and worked as a team leader for the national team at several World Championships and the 2010 Olympics.

In 2011 he joined the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine as an advisor to the President, led the Lviv 2022 Olympic Winter Games bid as the CEO and has continued to work as an executive adviser to Ukrainian IOC Executive Board member Sergei Bubka.

Since November 2014 he’s back with the Belarusian Ice Hockey Association as an advisor to the Chairman and since March 2016 as a board member. On 31 May 2016 he was elected as Vice President of the board.

Gontcharov has been a member of the IIHF Event Committee since 2008.
