ZURICH – The 2010-2011 Continental Cup Super Final will be staged January 14-16 in the Minsk Arena, a new state-of-the-art venue on the outskirts of the Belarusian capital.
It was already known that the Final would take place in Minsk with champion Yunost Minsk as the host, but it is now clear that the city’s best venue will be used for the weekend-long tournament. The 15,000-seat Minsk Arena opened last winter and was also used for the gold medal game of the 2010 World U18 Championship.
Yunost and defending champion Red Bull Salzburg are qualified for the finals, while the two other finalists will be determined through qualification tournaments.
The second round will be this weekend starting on Friday. Dutch champion Tilburg Trappers hosts Group B that includes Kohtla-Järve Viru Sputnik (Estonia), Cracovia Krakow (Poland) and CH Jaca (Spain). Group C will be hosted by Slovenia’s HDK Maribor and features Dunaujvaros (Hungary), SC Miercurea Ciuc (Romania) and Sary-Arka Karaganda (Kazakhstan).
The winner of each event advances to the third round with two more tournaments in Asiago (Italy) and Rouen (France) that will determine the teams for the two remaining spots in the final tournament.
