After a close 2-1 score between the teams in the preliminary round the set-up was interesting for the game between Mongolia and Hong Kong to decide for fifth place in the tournament. Hong Kong took off by gaining the lead at 3:08. By keeping the legs and the puck moving, Hong Kong was able to take control of the game and to make it 0-2 before the first intermission. Hong Kong extended the lead by getting two quick goals within the first five minutes of the second period – the first of them only after 19 seconds of play. With five minutes remaining, Mongolia got on the scoreboard for the first time just before the end of the second period. In the third period, drive to the net took Hong Kong to a 1-5 lead at 42:35. After their fifth goal, scoring opportunities could be watched at both ends and Mongolia scored one more goal at 46:59for the 2-5 final score. With the result, Hong Kong finished the tournament in fifth, and Mongolia in sixth position.
