China I 8 – DPR Korea 3

In the second game of the day, it was DPR Korea to meet China I in its first international game of the season. China with its Olympic athletes on the ice started strong against its Division II opponent and got the lead after only 14 seconds of play and gave no saves in the game for goalkeeper Hong Kum Sil, who was replaced by Ri Hye Yong after the goal. For the following ten minutes, the game seemed to be getting more even with some scoring and powerplay opportunities at both ends. At 12:48, China found a way to get the puck past DPR Korea’s disciplined defence getting their second goal of the evening on a powerplay. With two goals each from Sun Rui and Zhang Ben in the end of the period, three of those on powerplays, China made it 6-0 after the first period with little hope left for the North Koreans.

After an eventful first period, there was not much action for the half of the middle period in front of either net. At 32:15, DPR Korea got a powerplay opportunity which it was able to use with Ri Sol Gyong finding a five-hole with a low slapshot from the slot. The Koreans won the second period 1-0.

In the third period, China came out more determined and with more scoring chances. At 47:43, the game plan seemed to be working with China’s seventh goal, on a powerplay. Less than a minute later, DPR Korea answered with its second goal of the evening to show that the players had still some energy left. The period ended with two goals for each team and China won 8-3 thanks to its first-period rush.
