DPR Korea 6 – China II 3

Having been underdogs in their first games, both DPR Korea and China II were after their first points in the tournament. After DPR Korea took the lead in the game with drive to the net from Choe Myong Hyang only after 1:18, both teams went hand-in-hand for the following 8 minutes levelling the scoring changes. At 9:46, DPR Korea got a shorthanded breakaway, an opportunity not to be missed and that put China II two goals behind in the game. The pressure was on China II for the remainder of the period with two more goals for DPR Koreans within last three minutes to make it 4-0 after the first period. Shots on goal were 27-9 in favour of the North Koreans indicating their dominance in the period.
 
Early in the second period, China II reduced the gap down to three goals with a top corner wrist shot from Huo Cui at 21:24. Although, DPR Korea continued to be the slightly more active team on the ice with 13-8 shots in the second period, it was China II to get the next marker at 34:15 to narrow the gap down to two goals with 20 minutes to go in the game.
 
In third period action, China II pushed the Koreans and wanted to narrow the score for a chance to win the game. Despite that, DPR Korea mostly had the possession of the puck. The young Chinese team didn’t loose its faith and was rewarded with a goal from Sun Yiwa at 56:47 to bring the team to a striking distance. Hard effort to equalize the game turned into two penalties at the end of the period, one of them used by the DPR Korea’s Ri Sol Gyong getting her second goal of the game at 59:46. 13 seconds later with only one second remaining on the clock, Ri Ok Yong scored also her second to finish the game with a 6-3 score.
