Thailand-Malaysia (April 4)

Thailand 5 - Malaysia 2

Both Group A teams lost their semi-final clashes and landed in a re-match for the bronze medals in the tournament. Thailand won the previous game 6-1. In today's game, Thailand also took the lead in the game at 9:34 with a coast-to-coast goal by the directorate's choice as tournament's best defenceman, Neimwan Likit. Soon after, Malaysia got a couple opportunities to tie things up, but the Malaysians were not able to score, trailing 1-0 after the first period. In the second period, the teams were going head-to-head for the first eight minutes until at 27:57 Likit got his second goal of the evening with a heavy slapshot from the blueline. Only one minute later, Thailand made it 3-0 and seemed to be walking away with the bronze medals until Malaysia came back into the game by the skilful performance of Ban Kin Loke at 34:35. Loke, who was voted as the best forward by the directorate, got a deflection from the defender to help him get past the goalie with a wristshot to close the gap down to two goals after two periods. In third period, Thailand came out wanting to set things straight right from the beginning and the Thais got two quick goals within seven minutes to make it 5-1. Malaysia did not quit and was able to get their second goal to keep hopes alive, but even with a power-play opportunity at the end, Malaysia was not able to get closer and had to settle with fourth position in the tournament while Thailand claimed the bronze.
