On-ice officials assigned for exhibition games

ZURICH – Eight on-ice officials from Europe and four from the NHL will call the pre-competition games taking place in Europe before the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Based on an agreement between the NHL and IIHF Officiating management staff, the four exhibition games will be officiated in split crews (IIHF referee/NHL referee + IIHF linesman/NHL linesman) in the four-man system.

The IIHF assigned the following on-ice officials:

Referees: Jan Hribik (CZE), Anssi Salonen (FIN), Roman Gofman (RUS)*, Tobias Bjork (SWE)

Linesmen: Libor Suchanek (CZE), Sakari Suominen (FIN), Gleb Lazarev (RUS), Andreas Malmqvist (SWE)

* Note: Due to a recent injury Roman Gofman will be replaced by Konstantin Olenin (RUS).

From the NHL referees Gord Dwyer and Eric Furlatt as well as linesmen Michel Cormier and Steve Miller have been selected.

The IIHF on-ice officials selected for the exhibition games in Europe took part in the 2016 NHL Exposure Combine in Buffalo, USA, where they have passed NHL physical testing and met with the NHL on-ice officials selected for the World Cup of Hockey.

The following four games will be played in Europe prior to the teams’ departure to North America for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey in Toronto:

8 Sep. Russia vs. Czech Republic in St. Petersburg, Russia
8 Sep. Finland vs. Sweden in Helsinki, Finland
10 Sep. Sweden vs. Finland in Gothenburg, Sweden
10 Sep. Czech Republic vs. Russia in Prague, Czech Republic

Additional pre-competition games will be played at several venues in North America including Quebec City, Columbus, Ottawa, Montreal, Washington and Pittsburgh.
