USA names Universiade coach

Joe Augustine to coach U.S. University Select Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, United States – USA Hockey named Joe Augustine head coach of the United States University Select Team, which will compete at the 2009 Winter Universiade, February 18-28, in Harbin, China.

Augustine is returning to the U.S. University Select Team coaching ranks, after serving as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2007 Winter Universiade in Turin, Italy. He is currently in his 20th season as head coach at the University of Rhode Island where he has compiled a 390-170-33 record.

Dave Debol, head coach at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, will serve as one of the assistant coaches. USA Hockey also announced Dr. Alan Murdoch, head coach at Iowa State University, will serve as general manager of Team USA, while Ashley Bevan, director of adult hockey for USA Hockey, will be the team leader and Dr. Razib Khaund will serve as team doctor.

The U.S. University Select Team is comprised of players from college teams affiliated with the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).
