Askar Mamin takes over as federation president

ASTANA, Kazakhstan – Askar Mamin was elected the new president of the Kazakh Ice Hockey Federation.

Mamin is the third president in the history of the 1991-founded association and is the successor of Viktor Khrapunov. He was part of the founding and development of club team Barys Astana, the Kazakh team that plays in the Russian KHL.

The 43-year-old businessman was the Minister of Transport and Communication of Kazakhstan until 2006 and the Mayor of Astana until April 2008. Most recently, he was chairman of a regional branch of the Kazakh Ice Hockey Federation and of Kazakh railways.
