JÖNKÖPING, Sweden – Reigning Swedish champion HV71 Jönköping signed Canadian centre Kris Beech.

The 27-year-old will join the Swedish Champions Hockey League team Monday and will be not be eligible to play in the CHL until on November 12 because of the CHL transfer regulations. He can play in Swedish Elitserien games immediately.

“Beech is a playmaking centre and a strong puck handler,” HV71 Sport Director Fredrik Stillman said of the addition.

Beech was Washington’s seventh pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He played 198 NHL games scoring 25 goals and 42 assists. Most recently, he was in the Pittsburgh Penguins camp but was cut after two pre-season games.

In other roster news, American defenceman Nicholas Angell’s six-month contract with HV71 started this week. Since he was registered prior to the first CHL transfer deadline, he is eligible to play in the team’s next CHL game on October 29th in Finland.
