SLANY, Czech Republic – Just like the men's team, Slavia Prague’s women’s team became the Czech champion. And just like the men, the team is undefeated in European competition.
Slavia Prague won Group A of the European Women’s Champions Cup’s first round with little resistance.
Slovenia’s Terme Maribor was the toughest opponent in the first game – and they were beaten 9-0. Two-digit victories against last-placed FTC Budapest from Hungary, 26-0, and Turkish champion Polis Akademisi Ankara, 36-0, followed for the Czechs. The domination by the team of Karel Manhart, boosted with some few North Americans, was also reflected in the shots on goal statistic – like 95-1 against FTC Budapest.
Slavia Prague advances to the second-round Group E, which will be played December 5-7, against Kazakhstan’s Aisulu Almaty, the Finnish champion Espoo Blues and another qualifier. The other three tournaments of the first round will be held next weekend.Click here for the scores and standings of Group A.Click here for the EWCC format.
