MAGNITOGORSK, Russia – Metallurg Magnitogorsk signed 23-year-old winger Konstantin Pushkarev.
The former junior national team player for Kazakhstan rejoins the Russian league after playing in North America for four years. He played 17 NHL games (2 goals, 3 assists) for the Los Angeles Kings but was mostly on farm teams. The second-round draft pick was released on October 7th by the Dallas Stars after he failed to make the NHL team earlier in the month.
Pushkarev signed a two-year contract. Previously, the Ust-Kamenogorsk native played 11 games in the highest league for Avangard Omsk and CSKA Moscow.
Last season, Pushkarev had 13 goals and 27 assists in 49 AHL games for the Iowa Stars.
The Kazakh is not eligible to play the Champions Hockey League game against Germany’s Eisbären Berlin on Wednesday but can be added during the transfer window afterwards.
