TAMPA, United States - Ottawa Senators' captain Daniel Alfredsson took over the NHL's scoring lead after a seven-point night at Tampa Bay.

The Seantors can relax going into the All-Star Weekend after an 8-4 road win against Tampa Bay. Their captain Alfredsson scored his sixth career hat trick and added four assists to his 67 points he has netted this season. In a narrow fight for the scoring crown, the Swede has overtaken Tampa Bay's Vincent Lecavalier, who stayed at 66 points after the meeting. Washington's Alexander Ovechkin has 65 points while three players - Ilya Kovalchuk, Jarome Iginla and the injured Sidney Crosby - have 63 points.

Ottawa is not only first in the scorings stats but also leads the Eastern Conference with six points more than Montreal.
