NARVA, Estonia – Two days after Great Britain has prematurely won the 2009 IIHF World U18 Championship Division II Group B, host Estonia took home silverware.
The Estonians lost only the game against tournament winner Great Britain (5-1) on game day two and were undefeated afterwards. A 4-3 shoot-out win against Belgium, which eventually won bronze, was followed by 6-3 victories against the last-ranked teams China and Serbia.
Netherlands, which played on Division I level last year, finished in fourth place after they lost their last game to Great Britain, 8-5, leaving the Brits undefeated.
The last decision fell on bottom of the standings. Serbia’s 6-1 win over China on the second day was enough to remain in Division II one year after the promotion. China, which re-entered the U18 program in 2007, has to go back to Division III after two years and after losing all games in Narva.Individual player awards selected by the tournament directorate:
