Celebrities to unveil hockey sculpture

Team FIFA to challenge Team IIHF in ice hockey at Centennial Rink

Wednesday, February 6, will be one of the highlights of the 3-month-long “Ice Time” at the IIHF headquarters in Zurich – and not only because it's IIHF President René Fasel’s birthday.

Unique Ice Hockey Art to be unveiled

The well-known Spanish artist Rosa Serra has created an exceptional ice hockey sculpture in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the IIHF. The unique piece of art will from now on call the IIHF Office home.

On February 6, day of the statue’s unveiling, the IIHF Family will welcome artist Rosa Serra, former IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch and FIFA President Joseph Blatter. Four years after FIFA’s Centennial, the tables are turned and Mr Blatter, on behalf of FIFA, will congratulate the IIHF on its 100th anniversary and participate in the unveiling.

Media representatives are welcome to attend the event.

IIHF takes FIFA to the ice

When two major international sport federations meet, it wouldn’t be complete without action on the field. In the evening on February 6, Team IIHF will face-off against Team FIFA on its the centennial ice rink at the IIHF headquarters.

Swiss international referee Danny Kurmann (2 Olympic Games and 6 IIHF World Championships) will officiate the game according to the “one-man-system”.
One piccolo goalie will support each team on the miniature ice surface. Fans are welcome to join and cheer on their team, while media is welcome to cover the event. The winner can claim to be the leading International Sport Federation in Zurich, at least until the return game on grass. Team FIFA has already challenged the IIHF in football.

About the artist Rosa Serra

Rosa Serra is one of Spain’s most accomplished artists. She has created countless works devoted to sport. Her “Olympic Suite” is a collection of 22 sculptures that were exhibited at the provisional Olympic Museum in 1987, and now belong to the IOC. She will now contribute a special series of artefacts to the 100th anniversary of the IIHF.
