BURNABY, Canada – “More than a competition. More than a tournament. It’s a celebration of the sport and the young women who play the game.” These are the words that the world’s best female hockey player, Hayley Wickenheiser, uses to describe the Wickenheiser International Women's Hockey Festival.
The event will take place in the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby, November 18-21, 2010. Wickenheiser promises it will be a festival that includes her involvement on and off the ice where young women can engage in world-class competition, make friends from around the world, improve their skills and learn from the three-time Olympic winner.
Over 700 players from all over the world are expected in Burnaby in the categories Atom (born in 2000-2001), PeeWee (1998-1999), Bantam (1996-1997), Midget (1993-1995) and Adult.
The festival will have tournaments with a four-game guarantee for each team, and will include clinics and workshops for players, parents and coaches featuring high-profile coaches, athletes and experts.
A portion of the proceedings will be donated to Right to Play and KidSport.
