ZURICH – The IIHF announced the on-ice officials for 41 international tournaments in the 2012/2013 season.

The referees and linesmen have been assigned for all tournaments in the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship program and in the Olympic Qualification, with the exception of the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Sweden and Finland.

For this event the officials will be named in January, taking into consideration the candidates’ performances in international and league games.

Also assignments for the Continental Cup and the European Women’s Champions Cup will be added later.

The list of officials includes 401 men and women coming from 41 countries. Most of them will officiate in one tournament while 31 officials were assigned to call games in two events.

The IIHF also announced the 21 referees who will take part in the European Referee Exchange Program. Three referees from each of the top-seven European leagues will officiate games in other leagues to gain international experience.

84 games in the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland will be part of the program in which a foreign referee will be paired with a local official for a game officiated in the four-man system.

The program was launched in 2004 in an effort to obtain more consistent officiating between nations.
