MALMÖ – The IIHF Disciplinary Panel is reviewing the incident that occurred at the end of the semi-final game between Russia and Sweden.
Following a scrum between the two teams after the end of the third period, Swedish defenceman Jesper Pettersson #6 and Russian player Andrei Mironov #22 exchanged punches with each other before being broken up by a linesman. Pettersson is under investigation due to the fact that he was not on the ice when the game finished. He was called for slashing with less than 30 seconds to go in the period, and left the penalty box at the conclusion of the game to get involved in the altercation.
There will be a formal hearing with Pettersson tomorrow morning, with any supplemental disciplinary measures to be announced after. If the panel decides to suspend the player, he would miss the gold medal game against Finland. |
