Canada opens tournament with a clear win

The IIHF Twelve Nations Invitational Tournament Series in Vierumäki was opened today with a match-up between Canada and Switzerland. The game ended in a clear victory for Canada, 16-0. Straight from the start Canada took control of the game and created many  good scoring chances. The first goal of the game came at 2:20 of the first period from team captain Jayna Hefford. Canada clearly controlled the first period that ended with a clear 5-0.

The second period continued from where the first left off with Canada controlling the play. The Canadians played solid hockey scoring three more goals in the middle stanza. In the third period Switzerland got tired and Canada took advantage, scoring eight unanswered goals. Canada played well in both ends and they didn’t give Switzerland a chance to score. The most visible players from Canada were Mallory Deluce with one goal and three assists, and Jayna Hefford with three goals.
