Straight from the start everyone was able to see that Finland was ready to play. Finland took control of the game early on, and gave few chances for Switzerland throughout the game. Swiss goalie Sophie Anthamatten had 24 saves in the first period, clearly setting the tone for the game. The first period ended 3-0 in favour of   Finland.

In the second period, Finland continued their strong play and kept full control of the game. The score after the second period was 7-0 in favour of Finland. The rest of the game followed the same pattern until the scoreboard showed 12-0 before the final buzzer.
