Sweden vs. Slovakia 4-1 (2-0, 1-0, 1-1)

Sweden began the tournament with a 4-1 win over Slovakia. Sweden started the match with high speed and took an early lead with a goal by Frida Nevalainen.  Sweden dominated the first period, and without the 32 saves from the Slovak goalie Zuzana Tomcikova, the score would have been very different.  Erika Holst’s power play goal made it 2-0 half way through the first period.

The second period was a little more evenly matched, with Rebecca Stenberg from Sweden making the only goal of the period.

The third period was again dominated by Sweden, although Slovakia was able to score a goal.  The goal was scored by Janka Culikova.  Sweden outshot the Slovaks 23-3 in the third period and finished off the scoring with a power play goal for Sweden by Emilia Andersson, making the final score 4-1 for Sweden.
