USA vs. Sweden 2-0 (0-0, 2-0, 0-0)

USA squeaks past Sweden

Tuesday afternoon saw TEAM USA meet with Sweden. The U.S. came out strong, but the Swedes were ready to play. Although the Americans maintained possession of the puck for most of the period, Sweden played a strong positional game. With chances both ways, it was veteran goaltender Kim Martin, who stood out turning aside all 19 shots in the first period to keep the game scoreless.

The first period took its toll on the Swedish team, and Team USA continued to pressure throughout the second. The U.S. forecheck was relentless, and the Swedes were unable to hold them off for a second straight period, and ended up surrendering two goals ending the period 2-0 in favour of the Americans.

Sweden came out with new energy to start the third period, outshooting USA 17-10. Both teams had multiple scoring chances, but were unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game.
