Continental Cup continues

Second round to be played this weekend in Lithuania and Romania

ZURICH – The 2008-2009 Continental Cup continues Friday with tournaments of the second round in Elektrenai, Lithuania, and Miercurea Ciuc, Romania.

Energija Elektrenai, the team that won the last six Lithuanian championships, hosts Group B which includes Polish champion Cracovia Krakow, Netherland’s champs Tilburg Trappers and Sokil Kyiv, the Ukrainian champion that leads the second-tier Russian league with 40 points in 16 games.

After having won the first-round group four weeks ago, Serbian champion HC Novi Sad plays in Group C against Romanian hosts SC Miercurea Ciuc, Dunaujvaros (Hungary) and Spanish title-holder CG Puigcerdà.

The winner of Group B advances to the third-round Group D in Liepaja, Latvia, against Liepajas Metalurgs, Keramin Minsk (Belarus) and Gornyak Rudny (Kazakhstan). The winner of Group C qualifies for the third-round Group E in Bolzano, Italy, against the Bolzano Foxes, the Coventry Blaze (Great Britain) and HDK Maribor (Slovenia).
