MANNHEIM – The Swiss Ice Hockey Association registered 20-year-old defenceman Patrick Geering for the 2010 IIHF World Championship on Monday.
Switzerland coach Sean Simpson now has three goalkeepers, eight defencemen and 13 forwards on his roster before the game against Norway.
Geering completed his second season in the National League A with the ZSC Lions Zurich and was also part of the team that won the 2009 Champions Hockey League and the 2009 Victoria Cup with Simpson.
He represented Switzerland in three World U20 Championships (of which two were in the top division) including this year’s fourth-place performance of the Swiss in Saskatoon, Canada. It will be his first World Championship with the men’s national team.
Belarus, Denmark, Slovakia and Switzerland can still add one more player to their roster, the United States even two.
Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Norway, Russia and Sweden have registered the maximum of 25 players.
