Slovakia will organize the 2011 IIHF World Championship! The 75th World Cup will be hosted by the two largest Slovak cities - Bratislava and Kosice, as decided by delegates congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in Riga, Latvia. The Slovak candidacy received 70 votes, for Sweden there were 20 votes, 14 for Hungary and the Finns waived the option to hold the World Championship in 2011 before the vote. The Slovak project succeeded thanks to the support of the President of the Republic - Ivan Gasparovic, who came to support the nomination in person in Riga. The 2011 IIHF World Championship will be played at the new Ladislav Trojak arena in Kosice and in the reconstructed Bratislava Ondrej Nepela arena.
