The rebuilding of the Ondrej Nepela Arena in Bratislava is underway according to plans. The second Media Day at the arena took place in December 2009, and the arena now has a new roof and all the basic constructions are finished. The rebuilding process has cost 20.5m Euro so far. The building has already reached its top point and the time plan has been met.

“This is a very important moment. I am glad that the reconstruction is going according to the plans, we are a bit ahead of schedule,” said Mr. Andrej Durkovsky, mayor of Bratislava. There will also be two new training rinks built next to the arena. The works on the project are fully underway, there are about 150 workers at the site daily.

The stadium should be finished in early 2011 and it will serve to hockey fans, hockey players as well as ordinary people. “We plan to built a sport park next to the arena. There is much more space available that has not been used effectively in the past.” This green park should benefit the whole area.

The financing of the new arena will be covered by the Slovak government during this year. The city of Bratislava has financed the site last year, and the state will cover most costs in 2010 and 2011.
