BERNE/KLOTEN – Yannick Weber, who skated for the Montreal Canadiens during the NHL playoffs and for the farm team (Hamilton Bulldogs) for most of the season, will arrive in Berne on Tuesday and will be added to the Swiss roster for the Qualification Round.

Weber is one of two Swiss NHL rookies. He had two points (1+1) in three playoff games with the Canadiens. He notched 16 goals and 29 assists in 70 AHL games for Hamilton.

Another rookie defenceman could join the Swiss team. “We’re also in contact with Luca Sbisa,” head coach Ralph Krueger said. Sbisa’s season with the NHL and AHL team of the Philadelphia Flyers is over.

Sweden has officially registered forwards Patrik Berglund from the St. Louis Blues and Kristian Huselius from the Columbus Blue Jackets, who had been announced previously by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association. Berglund is an NHL rookie who will play in his first World Championship. The 20-year-old scored 21 goals and 26 assists in 80 games for the Blues. Huselius will play at the World Championship for the first time since his previous three tournaments (2000-02).

Canada adds defenceman Joel Kwiatkowski to its roster. He was one of two alternate players in the team and was registered on Monday. He’s the only non-NHL player on the team, coming from Russia’s Severstal Cherepovets. He scored a team-best 26 points (13+13) in 52 games.

The Czech Republic added a new centre with former NHL forward Josef Vasicek, who played last season for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in Russia. The 28-year-old has played in two World Championships for the Czechs, most recently when they won the gold in 2005 in Vienna.

Slovakia added Juraj Stefanka, a forward from Vitkovice Ostrava, who made the World Championship team for the third time after 2004 and 2005.

Denmark added veteran defenceman Daniel Nielsen (Herning) and 22-year-old forward Jespen Jensen (Frederikshavn), who will participate in his first World Championship.
