The Finnish ice hockey federation announced on Friday that Montreal Canadiens captain Saku Koivu will not be helping Team Finland in the 2009 World Championship.

Koivu didn't pass the end-of-season medical exam and he says that he suffers from an abdominal injury he got at the end of the regular season.

He will now undergo further exams to determine whether the injury requires surgery.
