OULU, Finland – Finnish champion Karpat Oulu signed Martti Jarventie to a one-year contract with an option for a second year.

The 32-year-old returns to the SM-Liiga, where he played for Ilves Tampere and for Jokerit Helsinki, after one year in Sweden with relegated team Mora IK.

Jarventie, who also played one NHL game for Montreal in 2001-2002, is known as a defensive leader. In 2006-2007, he was the plus-minus leader of the Finnish league with a +25.
